KAMPUNG FILM FESTIVAL
KAMPUNG FILM FESTIVAL
មហោស្រពភាពយន្តកំពង់

Kampung Film Festival is born of the need to remedy the lack of cinema and cultural activities on remote Cambodian islands and villages.
THE PROGRAM

Kampung [kæmpəŋ] means ‘port’ or ‘boat harbor’ in Khmer language, evidenced by the names of four of our provinces adjacent to the Mekong. The term reflects a deep-rooted sense of origins, arrival and community. Kampung, and its variations, is a term also used by Singaporeans, Malaysians and Indonesians to classify and name villages, towns, and neighborhoods. The English word “compound” is derived from this word.

EDITION
1ST EDITION
The first edition of Kampung Film Festival took place on Koh Sdach island. The festival organized 3 short and 3 feature films to be projected on a huge inflatable screen.
Improvised from three kindergarten classrooms, a photography and video exhibition also took place and was open to the public throughout the entirety of the festival.
During the day, a stop-motion workshop provided students with materials to work together to create their own short film.
